Asian University of Bangladesh

Asian University of Bangladesh (Bengali: এশিয়ান ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ বাংলাদেশ) or AUB is a private, coeducational university of Bangladesh. It was established on 4 January 1996 by the Private University Act 1992. AUB has four campuses in Uttara, Dhanmondi, Khulna and Rajshahi. The university is affiliated by University Grants Commission (Bangladesh) and managed by Asian University Trust.
Message from the Honourable Vice Chancellor
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Asian University of Bangladesh, a place of learning and scholarship, engaged in preparing young men and women to face the challenges of the new millennium.

In its efforts towards progress and development, Bangladesh needs high quality human resources, professionally sound and morally upright, equipped with state-of-the-art knowledge and technology know-how. AUB commits to deliver this to the nation.

Established in September 1996, with a few students and only two faculties located in a small two-storied building, AUB expanded and grew very fast. It has now seven faculties, four campuses and about seven thousend students. This has been achieved despite our efforts to restrict expansion in the face of high demand and pressure for admission into our university. It seems that AUB's quality education did the promotional job effectively.

AUB has two modes of education, which is unique in the country. A full time student can have the privilege of campus based education. But if you are working or staying away from the campus, you may still avail of AUB's quality education through its distance mode.

If you have made up your mind to excel, to make high achievements in life and contribute to building the nation, you need the best in education and training. AUB's mission is to give this to you.

I am sure you will find this website very useful and informative. For additional information, please refer to the AUB office, which will be glad to assist you.

Please accept my best personal wishes for your success.

Professor Abulhasan M Sadeq, Ph.D.
Vice Chancellor,
Asian University of Bangladesh.

History

Dhanmondi Campus, Asian University ofBangladesh
Asian University of Bangladesh (AUB) received formal approval of the Government of the Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh on 4 January 1996 as a degree-awarding university under the Private University Act, 1992. AUB is accredited by the University Grants Commission, Bangladesh and the Government of Bangladesh. AUB is also accredited overseas.
The efforts to establish this university date back to 1990 when the idea was first mooted out by the founder of AUB, Dr. Abul Hasan Muhammad Sadeq, to import high quality education as widely as possible from an inter-disciplinary, integrated ethico-human approach reflecting our values, heritage and principles. Efforts continued for mobilizing a pool of academic resources from experienced and committed Bangladeshi academicians attached to overseas universities. The academic programs of AUB have been prepared by experts with cooperation from reputed overseas universities to meet international standards of education.

Asia Foundation has so far donated 5000 books and 900 audiovisual learning resources which have been kept in the corner. Besides Uttara, there is one more Asia Foundation corner at Dhanmondi Campus of the AUB. The materials received from the Asia Foundation are found extremely useful for the students and the faculty members.[2]
Features

AUB is a leading university in Bangladesh. Its salient features include the following:
AUB provides dual-mode education: Distance and on-campus, which is unique in Bangladesh. Dual-mode education exists mostly in developed countries.
The academic curriculum of AUB has been developed with the help of experts from reputed universities, at home and abroad, to provide high quality education comparable with that of world-class universities.
An International Advisory Board consisting of members from American, Canadian and Australian universities advises on the academic standard of AUB.
In academic programs, AUB has adopted an inter-disciplinary and ethico-human approach so that the graduates of AUB are professionally sound and morally upright and equipped with multidimensional insights to face the challenges of real life in the complex world of modem times.
AUB follows the full credit hour system that provides flexibility to students to adjust their studies according to their interests, ability, needs and desired time plan.
AUB can reach every nook and corner of Bangladesh by its distance mode of education; thus high-quality education is accessible to remote areas including the rural poor.
Through distance education, AUB can go beyond the boundary of Bangladesh with its high quality education, especially Asian countries and particularly to its South-Asian neighbourhood.[3]
